A music channel solely driven by user created content. Offering a platform for fans and creatives to show off their creativity and put their own visual mark on music artists’ work. About participation and interactivity, a deliberate contrast to existing channels where a specific, highly-glossed image of music is dictated toward the viewer. Works as a refined and selected showcase opposed to an over saturated Youtube, where the best work is easily lost in the archives.

The core logo as seen above was developed to be flexible – with a number of different treatments which could be used in varied situations.  The aim behind the shapes being that they could be filled either with block colour or video clips where suitable on screen.

Erik Spiekermann, German Typographer and designer has achieved notoriety for his design in transport systems; most notably the German Railway.  Taking that into account, the design for my kinetic typography project is strongly inspired by antique train station departure boards.  Using Spiekermann’s own typeface – FFmt, the letters will appear to ‘flick’ on and off of the board; as if on a rotating cog containing the entire alphabet.

Erik Spiekermann – Typomania

This is my preferential clip from the film Helvetica to use as the soundtrack for a study in Kinetic Typography.

“I am obviously a Typomaniac, which is a, which is an incurable if er not mortal disease. Erm… I can’t explain it I just love; I just like looking at type, I just get totally gone, I mean they are my friends you know? Other people look at bottles of wine, whatever or girls bottoms. I get kicks out of looking at type.”

Recently I’ve been working on a campaign to celebrate and raise awareness of bad typography. Working with Bhav Mistry, Sophia Ray, Dan Cooper and Emma Noble we came up with the concept “Drunk on Type.”

We wanted to find a way to raise awareness of bad typography which would not just make sense to other designers, but find a way to involve those who have little or no interest in typography. We realised that at the end of a night out, with a few drinks down us, that is is the badly designed chicken shops we seek out, over any other sophisticated eateries – who wants humous at 4am?

Our aim – to create a video internet viral campaign, celebrating late night chicken shops in the form of a musical. Each having a personal shop we regularly visit, the aim is that our love for our chicken shops, will make people think of their own and resonate on a personal level.
